Biography
Jhuma Limbu is a Nepali folk singer, composer, and ethnomusicologist from Dhungesaghu, Taplejung. Trained under celebrated musicians Chandan Kumar Shrestha and Amber Gurung, she has released acclaimed albums such as Eh Saila, Amber Sangeet, and Khaasaam (a musical rendition of Limbu Mundhum chants), and worked on film scores like Jaar (2025). As a founding member of Raithane Sangeet Abhiyan, she leads efforts in preserving and promoting Nepal’s indigenous music, pioneering instruments like the ‘Dhela’ drum, and documenting traditions such as Hakpare and Palam. Her work bridges ancient Limbu rituals and contemporary expression, positioning her as a key figure in safeguarding Nepal’s musical heritage.
